Moors and Christians from Úbeda were fighting in Algeciras. On the point of exhaustion, the Moorish king proposed to the Christian king that twelve soldiers from both armies should decide the battle. The Christian knights were victorious and were named Lions for their bravery. From that day, the King bestowed on the most noble and loyal city of Úbeda the emblem of the twelve lions. | |||
